2020 Viejo
A viejo is an effigy made out of paper mache and flammable materials. Holes are left intentionally (back of the effigy) to allow people to write the things they wish to burn and then place inside of the viejo.
Traditionally in Ecuadorian culture, these are filled with fireworks, then they are burned on Dec 31st at 11:59pm. This burns away all the negativity of the that year and welcome the new year.
2020 has been a difficult year, like many I wish to burn the whole year away and cleanse away the negative. As part of this project, I want to collect submissions from people that wish to burn something away and place it inside of this viejo. This was the initial sketch for the Viejo
Initially the design was for a wood frame, however this would of made it too heavy and dificult to move.
